The study takes place across four sites of the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Network (CABiN). All four sites have specialty clinics devoted to treating bipolar disorder in children and adolescents. These sites include:

Primary Investigators

Dr. David Miklowitz, PhD
Dr. Miklowitz is Professor of Psychiatry in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the UCLA Semel Institute, and a Senior Clinical Research Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Oxford University. He completed his undergraduate work at Brandeis University and his doctoral (1979-1985) and postdoctoral (1985-1988) work at UCLA. His research focuses on family environmental factors and family psychoeducational treatments for adult-onset and childhood-onset bipolar disorder.

Dr. Danella Hafeman, MD, PhD
Dr. Hafeman is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and a child psychiatrist at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Hafeman’s research focuses on children, adolescents, and young adults with and at-risk for bipolar disorder. She is also the Medical Director of the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Services outpatient clinic, where she evaluates and treats youth with and at-risk for bipolar disorder. She also serves as Director of the Psychiatry Research Pathway, a training program for research-focused psychiatry residents.

Dr. Melissa DelBello, MD
Dr. DelBello is a child and adolescent psychiatrist who co-directs the Mood Disorders Center at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. She is the vice-chair of Clinical Research in the Department of Psychiatry, the director of Research Training and Education at CCHMC, and the co-director of the Division of Bipolar Disorders Research at the UC College of Medicine. Dr. DelBello is also a professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics with expertise in neurodevelopment and the treatment of children and adolescents with mood disorders.

Dr. Christopher Schneck, MD
Dr. Schneck is the medical director for the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Depression Center, and oversees patient care delivered by the clinic providers. He also works in the outpatient division of the University of Colorado Hospital and is the behavioral health director of the UCHealth Infectious Disease Clinic. In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Schneck teaches in the divisions of Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Neuroscience and the University of Colorado Medical School.
